Mini UPS for Your Router in Lebanon: Keep Wi-Fi On During Power Cuts
A $14-26 DC mini UPS keeps your router and fiber ONT running through the cut. How it works, how many hours you get, and which ones Technodel has in stock.
Why your Wi-Fi dies before the moteur kicks in
A mini UPS costing $14 to $26 keeps your router and fiber box running through the gap between EDL cutting out and the generator coming on. It also covers the hours when neither is on.
Every router in Lebanon has the same weak point. It runs on 9 V or 12 V DC from a small adapter, so the moment the mains drops, it drops. Your phone and laptop have batteries; the router does not. When the moteur comes on a minute later, the router reboots and takes another two or three minutes to reconnect. In a building where the generator runs on a schedule, that can mean no internet for hours while your phone data bundle takes the hit.
A full-size UPS for the whole desk is the heavy answer. For just the router and the ONT, a DC mini UPS is cheaper, smaller and more efficient, because it feeds the router the exact low-voltage DC it already uses.
How a DC mini UPS works
A mini UPS is a lithium battery pack with a DC output set to the voltage your router needs. It sits between the router's power adapter and the router itself. The adapter charges the pack; the pack powers the router. When the mains drops, the router never notices, because it was running off the battery all along.
That is why it beats a normal UPS for this job. A normal UPS stores DC in its battery, converts it to 220 V AC, and then your router's adapter converts it back down to 12 V DC. Each conversion wastes power. A DC mini UPS skips both steps, so a 40 Wh pack runs a router for hours where a 40 Wh desktop UPS would give you well under an hour.
Most units offer three things. A switch for 9 V or 12 V output (some add 5 V USB for a phone). A PoE port at 15 V or 24 V on the better units, which powers an outdoor camera or a wireless access point over its network cable. And a battery indicator, so you can see how much is left during a long cut.
What a mini UPS cannot do: run anything that needs 220 V AC. The TV, the PC and the fridge need a real UPS or an inverter. We cover sizing those in a separate guide.
How many hours you get
A typical home router draws about 6 W (12 V at 0.5 A). Add the Ogero fiber ONT and you are near 12 W. Add a PoE camera and you are near 18 W. The mAh figure on the box is for the internal 3.7 V cells, so a 10,800 mAh pack holds about 40 Wh, and roughly 80% of that reaches the router.
| Pack capacity | Router only (6 W) | Router + ONT (12 W) | Router + ONT + PoE camera (18 W) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8,000 mAh | about 4 h | about 2 h | about 1.3 h |
| 10,800 mAh | about 5 h | about 2.5 h | about 1.8 h |
| 14,200 mAh | about 7 h | about 3.5 h | about 2.3 h |
| 20,000 mAh | about 10 h | about 5 h | about 3.3 h |
| 22,000 mAh | about 11 h | about 5.5 h | about 3.6 h |
These are estimates from the stated capacity, not measured runs; a cold winter room and an old battery both cut them. The rule of thumb: for the 3-hour EDL gaps most areas see, anything from 10,000 mAh up covers the router alone, and 14,000 mAh or more if the ONT shares the pack. Check your router's adapter label: if it says 12 V 1 A, budget 12 W, not 6 W.
Which one to buy
All of these are in stock at Technodel with delivery across Lebanon in 1 to 3 days and cash on delivery. Prices are as of 2 November 2026.
| Pick | Product | Capacity | Outputs | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cheapest that does the job | 10800mAh Mini UPS 9/12V | 10,800 mAh | 9 V / 12 V DC | $14 |
| Router + PoE camera | Powerlink PL22 | 8,000 mAh | 12 V DC, PoE 15/24 V, USB 5 V | $14.30 |
| Quiet, basic | Power Link FSP1-5 | 8,000 mAh | 12 V DC | $14.30 |
| Best all-rounder | TECATHLON 14,200mAh DC UPS | 14,200 mAh | 5 / 9 / 12 V DC, USB 5 V, PoE 15/24 V, LAN pass-through, 18 W max | $15 |
| PoE first | Geatix POE-532E | not stated | 12 V DC, PoE | $15 |
| Longest runtime | SKE Mini DC UPS 20000mAh | 20,000 mAh | 9 V / 12 V DC | $20 |
| Longest runtime, bigger | Prosonic 22000mAh | 22,000 mAh | 9 V / 12 V DC | $26 |
If you only want the router to stay up, the $14 10,800 mAh unit is enough. If the ONT and the router share one pack, or you want a camera on the PoE port, the TECATHLON at $15 is the better buy: it has the most outputs, a LAN pass-through so the PoE camera plugs straight in, and 14,200 mAh. For a building with long scheduled cuts, go to 20,000 mAh or more.
Two devices, one pack: the DC splitter cable at $2 feeds a router and an ONT from a single 12 V output, as long as both use 12 V and their combined draw stays under the pack's limit.
Setup in three steps
- Read the label on your router's power adapter. It says something like Output: 12V 1A. That is the voltage you need to set on the mini UPS, and the current tells you the load.
- Set the voltage switch on the mini UPS to match (9 V or 12 V) before plugging the router in. Then plug the router's adapter into the mini UPS input, and the mini UPS output cable into the router.
- Let it charge for a few hours on the first day. Then pull the adapter out of the wall for a minute: if the Wi-Fi stays up, you are done.
The two mistakes that kill routers:
- Wrong voltage. Feeding a 9 V router 12 V can damage it. If the switch is set wrong, fix it with the router unplugged.
- Wrong plug polarity. Almost every router uses centre-positive barrel plugs, and the mini UPS cables match that. If your router's adapter label shows the centre as negative, do not use it without checking with us first.
One more: the mini UPS charges from the mains only. On a long cut it drains and does not come back until EDL or the moteur returns, so it is a bridge, not a generator.
Common questions
Can it run the Ogero fiber ONT too? Yes, if the ONT runs on 12 V (most do; check its adapter). Use a unit with two outputs or the $2 splitter, and size the pack for 12 W rather than 6 W.
Does it charge from the generator? Yes. The mini UPS charges from whatever comes out of the wall, EDL or moteur. It drains only when both are off.
Will it keep a mesh node up? Each mesh node needs its own mini UPS, because each has its own adapter. The main router is the one that matters most; without it, the nodes have nothing to extend.
How long does the battery last? Lithium packs in this class are good for a few hundred full cycles. With a cut a day, expect two to three years before runtime drops noticeably. Keep it out of direct sun and off the floor in a damp room.
Mini UPS or a full UPS? A full UPS (the 700 VA and up boxes) is for the PC, TV or anything with a 220 V plug. For the router alone, the mini UPS gives several times the runtime for a fifth of the price.
Can I run a 4G router on it? Yes, same rule: match the voltage on the router's adapter label. Most 4G routers are 12 V.
